The listing is the page every click lands on
Every dollar you spend on Sponsored Products, every organic search impression and every visitor from your Brand Store ends up on the same product detail page. If that page converts 8% of visitors when the category converts 12%, a third of your traffic budget is wasted before advertising is even discussed. Listing optimization is the work of closing that gap, and of making sure the page is indexed and relevant for the searches that matter, so the organic side grows too.
We treat it as a research-and-measurement project, not a copywriting job. The sequence below is what a full listing engagement looks like for one parent ASIN. Several ASINs run in parallel.
Week 1: audit and research
We start with the account as it is. The Detail Page Sales and Traffic report gives sessions and Unit Session Percentage per ASIN for the last 13 weeks, which tells us which listings have a conversion problem and which have a traffic problem. Fix Your Products, the Inventory Age report and the variation tree tell us which listings have a catalog problem underneath, such as a suppressed child, a broken family or a duplicate ASIN.
Keyword research comes next and draws on three sources. Search Query Performance and Top Search Terms in Brand Analytics show which queries your brand already appears on and who wins the clicks. The Search Term report from advertising shows which queries have actually produced orders for your product. Competitor listings on page one show the language the category has settled on. The output is a tiered keyword list: the primary terms that belong in the title, the secondary terms for bullets and attributes, and the long tail for backend search terms, each with its current rank and indexing status.
Week 2: copy, attributes and approval
The title is written to the category's character limit and to what shows on a phone, roughly the first 70 to 80 characters, with the primary keyword, the brand and the attribute that decides the purchase in that order. Bullets each answer one buyer question, in plain sentences rather than lists of adjectives, because both shoppers and Rufus read them for facts. Structured attributes, the fields such as material, size, compatibility and unit count, are completed in full; they feed search filters, the comparison chart and AI-assisted search, and empty ones are a common cause of suppression.
The description or A+ Content is planned at the same time so the page reads as one argument rather than three. Backend search terms take the remaining terms that shoppers use but that do not belong in the visible copy, checked against the 250-byte limit and against Amazon's prohibited-content rules: no competitor brands, no ASINs, no claims.
Everything is checked against Amazon policy, character limits, brand voice and mobile readability before you see it. You approve the copy; we do not upload anything you have not signed off.
Week 3: upload, indexing and catalog fixes
Copy goes live through the flat file for the category, with the previous version saved so any change can be reversed. Forty-eight hours later we verify indexing for every keyword on the map: a search for the term together with the ASIN, and a check for impressions in Search Query Performance over the following weeks. Terms that fail are traced to the field they sit in and fixed there.
Catalog problems are worked in the same week through the right Amazon process. Suppressed listings are fixed according to their reason code; broken variation families are rebuilt through the flat file with history preserved; duplicate ASINs are merged through Seller Support with identifiers and evidence attached; and, for brands in Brand Registry, contested fields on shared ASINs are locked so a reseller's contribution cannot overwrite them again.
Week 4 onward: measure, rank, iterate
A listing change is judged on two numbers. Unit Session Percentage, before and after, with the traffic mix held as steady as we can. And organic rank on the priority keywords, tracked weekly, because rank follows conversion with a lag of several weeks. Where a change can be A/B tested through Manage Your Experiments, which covers titles, images, bullets and A+ Content for brand-registered sellers, we run the test rather than guess. Only winners stay.
The AI-search layer is a standing part of this work. We collect the questions shoppers ask about the product, from customer questions, reviews and the queries in Search Query Performance, and check that the listing answers each one in words, in the attributes and bullets first and in A+ Content with alt text second. A listing that answers real questions plainly helps Rufus, COSMO-style semantic matching and human conversion at the same time.
What you receive
A keyword map per ASIN with rank and indexing status, updated weekly. The approved copy and attributes in a document you own. A change log of every listing edit, with the previous version. Conversion and rank per ASIN in the weekly report, and a monthly review of what to work on next. Catalog fixes come with the Seller Support case numbers so you can see the trail.
Frequently asked questions
Do you rewrite the whole listing or just the title and bullets?
Whatever the audit says needs it. Often the title and attributes are the problem and the bullets are fine; sometimes the copy is fine and a suppressed child in the variation family is losing the sessions. We scope per ASIN after the audit rather than selling a fixed package.
How long before a listing change shows in sales?
Conversion changes show in the Detail Page Sales and Traffic report within two to four weeks, once enough sessions have arrived to be sure. Organic rank moves more slowly, usually over six to twelve weeks, because it follows sustained sales velocity on the keyword.
Will you use my existing keywords and copy?
Yes, as inputs. Your Search Term report is one of the three research sources, because it shows which queries have actually produced orders for your product. Brand voice and any claims you have substantiation for come from you; we do not invent either.
Can you fix a suppressed or broken listing without the full optimization?
Yes. Catalog fixes, suppressions, stranded inventory and variation problems can be scoped on their own, and they are usually the first thing we do in any engagement because nothing else works while a listing is dark.
