Amazon Vine is Amazon's invitation-only reviewer program. A brand-registered seller enrolls an eligible ASIN, sets aside a number of units at no charge, and Amazon offers them to its selected Vine Voice reviewers, who receive the product free and post a review marked "Vine Customer Review of Free Product." Amazon charges an enrollment fee per parent ASIN that depends on how many units you offer, currently in tiers up to 30 units, and the ASIN must have fewer than 30 reviews at enrollment.
Why it matters
Vine is the only way to seek reviews for a new product that Amazon itself operates and sanctions. New listings with no reviews convert poorly, and the alternatives sellers used to lean on, incentivized reviews, review clubs and friends-and-family, are against Amazon's policies and put the account at risk. Vine gets a product from zero to its first set of reviews within a few weeks, which is why it sits inside most launch plans.
The reviews are honest. Vine Voices are chosen for the usefulness of their reviews, not their generosity, and Vine reviews on a product with a real flaw will say so. That makes Vine a product-quality test as well as a launch tool.
What moves it
- Eligibility. Brand Registry, an FBA offer in stock, a product that is not a restricted category, and fewer than 30 reviews.
- Units offered. More units usually means more reviews, but the fee tier rises with the count and not every unit produces a review.
- Product and listing quality. Reviewers evaluate the product against what the listing promised, so an over-promising page earns harsher reviews.
- Timing. Enroll before the ad budget ramps, so the first paid clicks land on a page with reviews.
How we use it
Vine is a standard step in our launch program, enrolled as soon as stock lands and before Sponsored Products spend rises. We review the first Vine feedback for anything the listing should set expectations about, and we pair Vine with the Request a Review button and follow-up that stays inside Amazon's communication rules, so review velocity keeps building after the Vine units are gone.
