The Buy Box, which Amazon now calls the Featured Offer, is the offer on a product page that is added to the cart when a shopper clicks Add to Cart or Buy Now. When several sellers list the same ASIN, Amazon picks one offer for that position and shows the rest under "Other sellers on Amazon."

Why it matters

Most sales on a shared listing go to the featured offer. Just as important, Sponsored Products ads only serve when your offer is the featured one, so losing the Buy Box switches off your advertising on that ASIN as well as most of your organic sales. Brand owners who are the only seller on their listings hold the Buy Box by default, unless the listing itself is suppressed or the offer is not eligible.

Buy Box eligibility is a status on the offer. New sellers, or sellers with poor account health metrics, can be listed without being eligible, in which case the page can show no featured offer at all even with stock available.

What moves it

  • Price, including shipping. The lowest landed price usually wins on a shared listing, but not always.
  • Fulfillment method. FBA and Seller Fulfilled Prime offers are favored over standard merchant fulfillment.
  • Seller performance. Order defect rate, late shipment rate and cancellation rate all count.
  • Stock availability and delivery speed.
  • Unauthorized sellers. A reseller undercutting by a few cents can take the featured offer from the brand owner.

How we use it

We monitor Buy Box ownership per ASIN and pause campaigns on any ASIN where it is lost, so ad spend does not send traffic to another seller's offer. Then we work the cause: a price or eligibility problem is fixed in Seller Central; an unauthorized seller is handled through Brand Registry and the Report a Violation tool.
