Key takeaways: Amazon.ae is a small, wealthy, lightly contested marketplace whose calendar and language differ from anything in the US or Europe. Demand peaks on White Friday in November and around Ramadan and Eid, which move earlier each year. Listings work in English but perform better with Arabic alongside, imports need conformity checks and an importer of record, and VAT at 5% is low but registration is generally required for non-resident sellers.

Why brands choose the UAE

The UAE has one of the highest incomes per head in the world, a young and largely expatriate population that already buys online, and a marketplace where relatively few international brands have built proper listings. Competition on most terms is light and cost per click is low by US or European standards. For products that suit the market, such as premium consumer goods, electronics accessories, beauty, home and gifting, the margins can be strong.

It is also a stepping stone. Amazon runs a separate marketplace in Saudi Arabia, and a brand that has done the conformity, listing and creative work for the UAE has most of what it needs for the larger Saudi market. Our Saudi page covers that step.

What is different

Tax and import

UAE VAT is 5%, among the lowest rates of any marketplace, and it is included in the listed price. Non-resident businesses making taxable supplies in the UAE generally have to register for VAT regardless of turnover, which surprises sellers used to thresholds; check the current requirement with the Federal Tax Authority and in Seller Central. Getting stock into the country is the larger task. Imports need an importer of record in the UAE and customs clearance, and many product categories require conformity certification under the Emirates' standards regime before they can be sold. Amazon offers import support programs for overseas sellers and local logistics partners can act as importer of record; check the current options in Seller Central and confirm the conformity requirements for your category before shipping.

Stock

FBA operates from fulfillment centers in the Emirates and gives the fast delivery that UAE shoppers expect. Delivery distances are short and the country is small, so stock levels can be leaner than in the US, but lead times from overseas are long and customs adds variability. Plan stock for White Friday and Ramadan well ahead, because both are large relative to normal weeks and both fall in a compressed window between November and, depending on the year, the spring.

Listings and language

The storefront and search work in English and Arabic. English listings are the baseline and reach the expatriate majority; Arabic content reaches Arabic-speaking shoppers who search in Arabic and improves indexing for those queries. The best-performing listings have both. Search terms are unusual: shoppers come from many countries and type British and American spellings, Arabic, and Arabic transliterations of brand names. Prices in dirhams, plugs, sizes and voltages should match the region.

Advertising

Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display run on amazon.ae with bids and budgets in dirhams. Cost per click is typically low, and English and Arabic search terms can be targeted in separate campaigns so each can be read on its own. Sponsored Brands creative benefits from Arabic versions for Arabic campaigns.

Creative

Infographics and A+ Content need Arabic text layers alongside English, and imagery should reflect the local context: family and gifting scenes for Ramadan and Eid, interiors that look like Gulf homes, and content that respects local norms on dress and imagery. Because the shopper base spans many nationalities, the visual language should be clear rather than culturally specific, with the facts a shopper needs, size, contents, voltage and price in dirhams, visible at a glance.

The calendar

The calendar is the biggest difference. White Friday in late November is the region's largest sales event and plays the role Black Friday plays elsewhere. Ramadan and the Eid holidays move with the lunar calendar and fall roughly ten to eleven days earlier each year, so the planning date changes annually; demand shifts toward gifting, food, home and family categories, and shopping hours move later into the night. Prime Day runs in the UAE. Singles Day on November 11, back-to-school in August and the Dubai Shopping Festival from December into January add further lifts. Christmas is a smaller event than in the West.

How we run a UAE account

Read this flowchart as text
  1. UAE go/no-go on AED unit economics
  2. Import: conformity certificates, importer of record, VAT registration
  3. Listing in English with Arabic: multi-spelling keyword research
  4. Creative: Arabic text layers, Ramadan and Eid gifting scenes
  5. Stock into UAE FBA ahead of White Friday and Ramadan
  6. PPC in AED: English and Arabic campaigns read separately
  7. Weekly: AE rank, ACoS, profit in AED reported separately

Import and conformity come first because they gate everything else and take the longest. The listing is built in English with Arabic content added rather than one or the other, and the keyword research covers the spellings a multinational shopper base types. Creative gains Arabic text layers and seasonal scenes for Ramadan and Eid. Stock arrives ahead of the two big events, and English and Arabic campaigns are run and read separately.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a UAE company to sell on Amazon.ae?

Not necessarily; overseas sellers can register on amazon.ae subject to Amazon's verification, but you do need an importer of record to bring stock into the country and you will generally need UAE VAT registration. Check the current requirements in Seller Central and with the Federal Tax Authority.

Should my Amazon UAE listings be in Arabic or English?

Both. English reaches the expatriate majority and is the baseline; Arabic content reaches Arabic-speaking shoppers and improves indexing for Arabic searches. Listings with both languages perform best.

When is the peak season on Amazon UAE?

White Friday in late November is the largest event. Ramadan and Eid are the other major peak and move earlier each year with the lunar calendar. Prime Day, Singles Day, back-to-school and the Dubai Shopping Festival add smaller lifts. Christmas matters less than in the West.
